Where on planet Earth were you born?

I was born in Toronto, Ontario. Canada

You have your own record label, HueMan Race Records, what type of artists do you work with and what do you look for in an artist?

Currently we are really focused on my new album Kaya- The Chrystal Neria Album which is POP/EDM but we have everything from Rap to Country Artists we are working with. I look for tone and star power but collectively we all look for originality.

Let’s get right into it, congrats on the CHRYSTAL NERIA ALBUM, you must be excited for your new release (Chrystal Neria is also your birth name, I really love your original name). How has the evolution been for you as a solo artist since day one till now?

It’s a full circle on starting with dance music and now being called the EDM Princess by my fans. It’s been an awesome journey.

DOWNLOAD THE ALBUM FREE (CLICK HERE) http://www.kayajones.com/?page_id=794 Could you share with our readers some of the collaborators you’ve worked on the new album with, also some past collaborations:

The new album I have JKWON on RTE which is awesome and who doesn’t love JKWON’s Tipsy song! Also Dada Life is on the album with their remix for TIO. DJ IKON (who’s everywhere in Vegas playing and the opener for Tiesto) came together with DJ E-MAN from Power 106. Killed it on the RTE REMIX!!! The song “Angel” with the duo Two is near and dear to my heart. It’s in consideration for Grammy’s so that’s currently my favorite song and it totally has done so well. Charting in Europe and on Radio from iTunes Charts to Radio charts, so cool! Past people I’ve worked with are everyone from Katy Perry to Britney Spears to Mick Jagger so I’m pretty blessed on the work front of experience.

You recently were styled out by Dark Beauty Magazine’s Topher Adam in Las Vegas for your album release. How did you both meet and tell us about what you wore:

I met the amazing Topher at his place through a dear friend and hair/makeup artist Dinah Raphaelle. She actually put us together and I’m so glad she did! She also did the hair and makeup for the shoot! I think I wore my black Ray Bans, Chanel shirt with a leather hoodie jacket and leggings with black motorcycle boots lol.

What did you learn in your experience with the Pussycat Dolls and how did you grow?

I learned so much and I am grateful for the 3 years I spent in the Dolls. I like how I learned how to stand up from myself and follow my gut. I’m glad I did because I wouldn’t be here and there wouldn’t have been a Chrystal Neria Album.

What has been the most memorable musical experience to date?

Oh wow most memorable moments is hard I’ve had many from performing for NASCAR ALL STAR to working with Mick Jagger. I’d say it would have to be performing in front of 100,000 people at the EDM Rave or when Scarlet Johansson gave me some kind words which helped me have the guts to leave the Pussycat Dolls.

Music welcomed you early on in your life, signing a development deal at the age of 12 by legendary producer/writer R. Kelly. Tell us about your personal connection with music from it’s spiritual side to how it forms you as an artist:

It’s straight from the heavens or space. There’s no greater connection to God then when your in that creative place. I feel so lucky to have the gift of music, it’s magical.

I just read your DJing as well, I think that’s a logical step to take as an artist who has a deep love and understanding for music. Who are some of your favorite DJs and any plans on a DJ tour?

My favorite DJs are Skrillex and Diplo. I love their work together and separately. Yes I do plan to tour and DJ more and more :)

You’ve been developing the Hollywood Doll brand (a line of dolls) where some of the proceeds go to the RETT Syndrome foundation. How did this come about?

Hollywood Doll just launched Vegas Doll, so super exciting! We did the donation for the Chocolate bars we have! We connected with the foundation through a friend, and when I read about how many young girls are effected by this it broke my heart. I wanted to do something.

I sometimes ask this question to certain artists, what advice could you give our younger readers who are looking to start a career in Music?

I would say believe in yourself and be yourself. There’s no one in this world like you, NO ONE! Don’t ever fit in. No one who ever leads fits in, thats why you become a leader. I never fit in, not in school and not in the Dolls. I wanted tattoos and I wanted to change my hair and be bold and that wasn’t allowed so I had to say I’m me and that’s cooler then being just another chick in a line you can’t name. So be YOU!

Tell us all the amazing future plans you have coming up, I hear your working on a Vegas show:

I am! I’ve been working on it for over a year and half now. It’s my baby! I can’t legally share to much as we are in negotiations, but it will change the world.

What does Dark Beauty mean to you?

I think Dark Beauty is being a light. My song ‘Release The Energy’ was all about showing your inner power and even through the dark your power can shine the light. I believe we are all stars, we come from there and so we return. While we are on earth we must shine and break down the walls people try to cage us in. I am a light and so are you, that’s Dark Beauty – through the darkness you can change the world and lead if you show your light. So show it already.

Anastasia Beverly Hills foundation and contour pallet

My friend Reina gave me this pallet by anastasiabeverlyhills. All I have heard are rave reviews and was very curious to try it out. So after using it for a few days now on myself, it never made its way into my professional kit because #believethehype I really like it. It doesn't feel like anything is on my skin when I'm wearing it, somehow this cream to satin finish that dries powder rarely needs a touch up stays looking fresh and damn near flawless. When I spend time on clients I am on a mission to do the most beautiful and fukyah happy dance magic I can do within my given time limit. On myself, I spend about 15 mins max but this was maybe 5 mins? I just slapped this on and I think used 5 products total. Full face makeup is great for photoshoots but this product can be used for both daywear and be built up for more coverage. It's also a great travel pack. "Firestarter" Dark Beauty November 2015

Hey Superstars, Im excited to share with you our latest feature (November) with Dark Beauty Magazine working with photographer & fashion designer Topher Adam and his muse Amy Lefevre. For this series I created a really fun and "out there" hairstyle that was perfect in time for halloween. In a new-wave-goth-aesthetic, I was inspired by StarWars and infused Egyptian mummification for creep appeal. Applying the makeup on Amy I mostly used Starlooks Cosmetics.

London Fashion Week #MakeupMonday

Happy #MakeupMonday! Last week I made my first (awkward yet hilarious) video showing how I do cateye winged liner. Maybelline (the official LWF sponsor) makes an excellent Blackest Black waterproof liner, which I used in the video. This makeupmonday also includes liquid liner but in a vibrant color, and seems to be the future trend arriving for makeup. What I'm sharing here are the looks we received from the designers for London Fashion Week which we recreated for the models on the catwalk for LFWSS16 collections. My go-to for colored liner is Stila brand. They have pencil liners, felt tip, and liquid in many beautiful colors to suit the "look" that works best for you <3

Paris: Tiffany Cooper for Karl Lagerfeld

Tonight, we celebrate designer history by opening a timecapsule, and experience the future of fashion with fearless abandonment and fun. The event marks the release of the Capsule Collection by Tiffany Cooper for Karl Lagerfeld at the original Paris location. This highly anticipated couture mini-collection is released in tandem with the book "Karl's Secrets" (written and illustrated by Cooper) and will be available to public April 4th. The collection encompasses playful caricatures inspired by Karl & Choupette (his kitty). The true-to-lIfe adventures in Coopers book depict and express Karl's good-humor and energetic personality in "couture-comic" form. #MakeupMonday Q&A: How Do I Sanitize My Makeup?

How do I sanitize my makeup?

The first step to clean makeup is clean hands. Having freshly washed hands, and hand sanitizer is key.

Hopefully you know how to clean your makeup brushes and clean them regularly with an anti bacterial soap or cleanser and don’t soak your brushes because it isn’t necessary and it destroys them. *But how do you clean your makeup?* Here are a few tips on sanitizing your actual makeup so you can keep yourself (and clients) healthy and beautiful.

What I like to do is buy an industrial size bottle of 99 percent alcohol. This can be bought at a drug store and is usually on the bottom shelf when stocked. You may also need to ask the pharmacist if you cant find it yourself and it may be kept behind the counter. Sometimes it comes in weird scents like cherry or orange which I only buy on accident and all the scents work equally well however some with the added effect of smelling like cheap vodka (equally nauseating). Then I buy a few of those traveler’s size 100 ml spritz bottles and label them immediately. Fill up the bottles and put them in your makeup kits, travel kits and home. **Also never ever ever drink this stuff. **

When Sanitizing….

Eyeshadows: Wipe away all dust and debris, spritz your powders, then tissue off the first layer, sometimes scraping and disinfect them again. They will dry as the alcohol evaporates, then close the lids on any compacts.

Lipsticks: Sanitize and spritz them, then wipe away the first layer and sanitize again, I repeat this a few times and the final time I sanitize I allow it to air-dry evaporate, you can also swirl a lipstick in a small cup of 99 percent alcohol and let it sit for 30 seconds to kill off all bacteria. It can also depend on if your makeup is in a tube, or a set kit regarding how you sanitize. Personally, I chop my lipsticks up in a case for set use and even if I haven’t used certain colors I still sanitize them all.

Pencil Liners: I tissue off, sanitize, sharpen, tissue, and sanitize for 30 seconds, tissue and sanitize, I sense a pattern here.

For gel liners and paint pots and concealers or anything creamy: You should be using a spatula and pallet when using this product to apply to yourself or anyone else. That way you are not contaminating the whole product. But to remove any debris you can also spritz, tissue off, and wipe away any mixed colors or layers of contamination with any of these kinds of makeup products too. Then repeat sanitization, always repeat.

Mascara and eye products are the biggest culprits to infecting so have plenty of disposable mascara wands on hand, never double dip, or be prepared to give your mascara away.

IMPORTANT: This is just a general knowledge helpful tip article and by no means is this everything you need to know. There are many ways to avoid contamination or cross-contamination via disposable wands or spritzing and wiping applicators and if in doubt, it is always better to be safe than sorry. If you end up contaminating a new product, consider that a pricey mistake that you hopefully wont be making again and give the product away to the person who you’ve contaminated your product with. If you have an infection, best to steer clear of makeup altogether. Also, if you are the client and know you have an infection or health issue, please be wise and responsible enough to tell your makeup artist too.

#MakeupMonday Q&A: Why you should buy makeup brushes (regarding personal application) and the difference between Natural versus Synthetic Brushes

Makeup Monday Q&A: Why you should buy makeup brushes (regarding personal application) and the difference between Natural versus Synthetic Brushes

If you are not a frequent makeup user you may skip buying those pricey brushes and think ”hey, these fingers kinda fit perfectly applying my makeup, so whats the problem?" But, What if I tell you that brushes (or any makeup brush) are designed to be even BETTER than your very own perfect hands! Well, it’s true and especially regarding bacteria...now, in a perfect world, getting out the shower and applying makeup with our hands isn’t that bad. But think of where we touch-up our makeup throughout the course of the day, and how our face sweats, sneazes, rubs, and collects and produces bacteria. And then remind yourself that makeup (depending) often blocks pores and it also has an expiration date. Additionally, once you start buying and getting used to working with your makeup brushes you will be able to do new and precise applications because they are designed to help in these spaces on your face. **Also I have yet to see (or do) spectacular makeup with hands alone.

  1. Natural fibers makeup brush VS Synthetic.

Let me preface this with legitimate bias. I have a lot of different brushes from varying brands and price ranges. I personally prefer synthetic because when you wash them, everything is good, but on natural brushes, they shed. Also with the whole industry and animal cruelty subject in mind, I’m happy to use the synthetic /cruelty free wherever possible.

Ok now for actual facts.

Natural Brushes are great for powders and blending. This includes eyshadows, powder foundations, or any product or pigment that needs to get picked up into the bristles of the brush itself, specifically powders. They are porous and the synthetic are not.

Synthetic Brushes are great for liquid foundation, gel liner, or anything where you need precision. They are factory made with a set angle and spacing. Their fibers are mechanically lined up which help to evenly coat and lay a smooth base. It gives seamless results when you sweep over for an even application and give flawless results. Ideal for creams, liquids, or any bases that you need to disperse evenly.

Supermodel Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne is leaving the modeling world to focus on acting. The British supermodel is an icon and feminist who is sick of the negative impact images have on young girls. Wishing her an incredible journey ahead and I'm sure she will be a talented actor and successful in wherever she decides to focus her career. http://youtu.be/NUD9cf3t-X8

💄 #MakeupMonday Q&A: HOW DO I KEEP MY EYESHADOW FROM CREASING?

💄Try using an eyeshadow primer as a base before u pack on those eyeshadows. These are silicone based creams which act as a barrier between your natural skin oils and your makeup. The molecular structure of the primer acts to fill in creases, allowing your makeup to lay on top of it. This helps keep your makeup in place and stays looking fresh, vibrant, and it doesn't crease or block your pores! When applying it, you don't need much, and you can (optional) finish with a setting spray on your overall face.

Primers I recommend by Brand, Product are:

💄Too Faced, Shadow Insurance ($20) 💄Urban Decay, Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($20) 💄Lorac, Behind The Scenes eye primer ($21)
